SRT (Street and Racing Technology) Motorsports is honoring the D

When the Dodge Viper GTS-R hits the race track at New York’s Watkins Glen International circuit, it will do so wearing the red and white livery that was seen on winning vipers from the past.

Both the number 91 and 93 Vipers will wear the heritage-inspired colors for the duration of the 2014 IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.

“We are honoring the racing history of the Dodge Viper by returning to its classic colors as we are in the midst of celebrating the Dodge brand’s 100th anniversary and 100 years of American performance,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO of SRT Motorsports and Senior Vice President of Product Design for Chrysler Group.

This release also confirms that the Viper will in fact revert to being known as the Dodge Viper. When the car was reintroduced in 2012, it was known as the SRT Viper. Since then, SRT was folded back into the Dodge brand, leaving the first name of the Viper up in the air.

The first time you can see the Dodge Viper GTS-R race cars in their new colors is Friday, June 27.
